3rd Annual Financial Teen Summit

Beginning on June 9, running through July, 2010 Metro Atlanta teens and tweens will have a unique opportunity to participate in a life-changing event, Kidz 4 Money’s 3rd Annual Financial Teen Summit: Building Wealth by Building Character. This FREE event series offers prizes, lunch, books and candid conversations from professionals in the area of Financial Literacy, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and a MindSet of Wealth. Bank of America joins the summit this year with its own brand of financial empowerment for our youth.

The subject of wealth is seldom considered unless implied with a get-rich-quick product. “In order to make this natural lesson of wealth stick, it must be attached to the character of the youth so that it grows as they grow. It must be part of who they are, natural and effortless,” says Lattice Hardwick founder of Kidz 4 Money. Kidz 4 Money has been delivering their message of building wealth to teens and tweens along with financial literacy to combat DPD (debt, poverty & dependency) in our communities.

Kidz 4 Money is a unique and empowering organization that is devoted to the economical strengthening of communities across the nation. We do so by delivering a message of promised greatness, wealth, and success. We give our youth something powerful to hold onto, their self. Financial literacy is a significant part of our lesson, along with practices of wealth building and The MindSet of Wealth®.

DPD Debt-Poverty-Dependency

DPD (Debt, Poverty, and Dependency) is a fast growing virus in our society today.  DPD is the nemesis of wealth.  Debt is an anchor to wealth, pulling down its progress.  Poverty is the opposite of wealth, building a brick wall between you and wealth.  Dependency is the thief of financial freedom, giving away your control.

DPD attacks many adults across the nation, leaving families enslaved by debt, disadvantaged by poverty, or restricted by dependency.  Though DPD is not an airborne virus, such as the common cold, it spreads electronically and socially with its influence.  Defend yourself and your future with wealth, a MindSet of Wealth®.

Dekalb County Juvenile Justice Rebound Program

Kidz 4 Money is very appreciative of the opportunity offered by Dekalb county Juvenile Justice System, where we just finished our 16 week-16 Module, MindSet of Wealth®, curriculum. Every time Kidz 4 Money has the opportunity to speak to young people or parents, we challenge traditional thinking of chasing money and plant the seed of chasing wealth; however, we also further learn the important lesson of bridging the generational gap and deliver life altering lessons to our young. We thank the honorable Judge Linda B. Haynes and her staff for their continued service for our community.

A MINDSET OF WEALTH®

A MINDSET OF WEALTH®

Put aside your worries of your loved ones future, give the gift of wealth and they will reap the benefits for a lifetime--the MindSet of Wealth.

The MindSet of Wealth® is the practice of finding your wealth from within you and not from outside sources. It is the practice of following your own talents, individuality, and Uniqueness, while holding on to your own values. It is embracing who you are, and allowing others to do the same; investing in your life and your dreams.

We measure our decisions by contrast, using our own identity as the reference.
When we are not sure of our identity, our decisions are random.

Wealth is a birthright, a promise that never dies, and cannot be stolen; yet many ignore this promise for highly-marketed fantasies. Simply said wealth is a matter of choice, your choice.

America’s Wealth is in the hands of its people, both individually and as a whole. If we surrender this wealth, individually or as a whole, we have no one to blame but ourselves. –GW Lawrence

Best Savings Tip for Ages 4 to 10

I wanted to offer a Kidz 4 Money tip on preparing your child for a life of eager saving. In the home, one of the most discussed topics is money, whether indirectly or directly. Kidz begin to learn at early ages that money has a value and too often that value equates to spending in one way or another. Start your child early with a solid savings plan. It could be from an allowance, gifts, or even money found around the house and have a consistent place where that savings is kept. Now, the best way of separating this savings from the element of spending is rename this saved money as 'Points'. Every child loves to play challenging games and most like to win. The 'Points' system automatically turns saving from a chore to a fun activity. This small name change from money to points will give them a festive feeling of accomplishment and an eagerness to excel. Offer thresholds of achievement during the savings plan, rites of passage, and celebrate them. The name change also gives the savings a distinction unrelated to spending. Start them as early as 3 or 4 and even as they grow to understand that the 'Points' is just money, they will have developed a habit of winning and saving.

It's Just Hard To Say Good-Bye: TEEN SUMMIT 2008 Atlanta Finale--Or Is It?

Simply said, Wow. That was the reaction of Ms. Gina Jenkins, the library manager at the Dekalb County, Redan-Totti Library on Saturday, Aug. 2nd--- Wow. This is where the final TEEN SUMMIT 2008 - Atlanta of the summer was held. The 45 teen attendance left with smiles, questions, and focus. Dreams were born and some put to plan as the organizers gave a sigh of accomplishment.

It was a joyful experience as well as a tearful one for Lattice Hardwick, founder of Kidz 4 Money and creator of TEEN SUMMIT 2008 - Atlanta. “I have never felt this good about an event as I have felt this summer. Today, of course, is a bittersweet event, since this is the last scheduled TEEN SUMMIT this year. But, believe me, we will be doing this again and more.”

TEEN SUMMIT 2008 Atlanta continues to BOOM

Kidz 4 Money’s TEEN SUMMIT 2008 marches on with several locations that raised the roof on teenage awareness in several life-changing topics. The positive energy that grows from each event has rippled into a wave that will splash onto the doors of Redan-Trotti library in Lithonia on Aug. 2 at 12pm. What was once an unknown attempt to bring peace to the usual summer madness has become a break through in generational communication, where each one teach one covers a spectrum of age groups. Teens, tweens, guest speakers, librarians, parents, and adults that have found their way into a summit have raved about the understanding they take home. Kidz 4 Money has innovated teaching and communicating between the age groups. Simply said, it is just one big ageless party.

The Power Over Money

Discovering The Uniqueness

Too often, as we grow further into adulthood, we become systematic thinkers. This means that we depend on following instructions, traditions, and patterns to process our experiences or lessons. This can make embracing your Uniqueness difficult, since your Uniqueness has no instructions, traditions, or patterns. It is not relevant to time, cultures, or systems. This unique energy operates freely and without boundaries. Sometimes as adults, we become so entrenched in the system of our lives that we forget to think openly or express our Uniqueness. We can even forget that it exists or that we have freewill to think for ourselves and express ourselves. Continue this Story

Rich vs. Wealth

There is a great misunderstanding pertaining to money. It stems from the actual pursuit and perspective of money. Most want to be rich and few want to be wealthy. What’s the difference? Well, the following information may help clear this up.

Rich is having more than enough money or possessions at a given time. It is having more than enough money for one’s needs and for one’s material desires. Riches can easily come and can easily go.

Honesty is your best attempt to be truthful or being as close to the truth as possible. It is an integrity builder that produces self-confidence and the confidence that others will have in you. A Forecast for Teens and Parents

Just as our young will never know what life is like without the internet, cell phones, and hand-held computers, we do not know what is in store for their future. Our lessons to them cannot be dependant on outside sources we see today. We need to prepare our young for a changing world, a world today’s adult will not recognize, but our young will live in. Just as our parents and grandparents look at our lives in amazement, so will this trend continue.

The only thing we know for sure is that our young will be part of this changing world.

The New Hippie--Today's Teen, Yesterday's Dream

By GW Lawrence

We may be seeing a shift in demographic strength in America. As the baby-boomers settle into retirement, there is a new rebel on the loose and just like the sixties, the numbers are on their side. With today’s teen pushing the scale towards 40 million, the largest demographic group ever, and responsible for spending of over $200 billion a year, they may well be the power of the nation in less than a decade.

The Missing Message in Personal Financial Development

It is crazy to think that we as individuals have created such an identity crisis. Our identity has become more of a process to fit our circle into the squares available to us, rather than a discovery of what is inside of us. We look for our truths in the comments and designs of others. It is seldom that we decide or behave from who we truly are, our Uniqueness.

We are fingerprints of human existence, each of us a unique personality in every way. Not by the friends we have or the place we are from, but by our birthright.

Advertising: Grade Schoolers

As your child grows up, advertising messages become influential sources of information about the world. TV commercials, radio ads and Web banners brim with messages about how to be cool, attractive or successful.

Though your gradeschooler can likely identify an ad—she can point to it and declare, "That's a commercial"—she may not be immune to its persuasion. To help your child understand the underlying messages she may be picking up from ads, talk about the reasons behind commercial communication. Point out how most ads aim to:

· inform (give new facts or ideas);
· entertain (make you laugh, create suspense, cause a reaction); and/or
· persuade (influence behavior, change what you believe or shape the way you think).

5 Ways to Promote Ad Savvy
1. When watching TV with your child, question the commercials.
Voice your skepticism by posing questions such as these: Who do you think created this ad? What do you think the message is? What might the advertiser not be telling us? Do you think you can believe what you see? Start with obvious targets—ads promoting high-fat foods, for example—then move on to more subtle ads, such as those promoting a cool or attractive lifestyle. Explain how advertisements are often meant to make people feel that something is missing from their lives.

2. Explain your family's purchases to your child.
Help your child see why you buy certain items and not others. Guide him to an understanding that you are making conscious choices. Make it clear that the purchases you make reflect the values you hold.

3. Encourage your child to question what's left out of an advertising message.
Point out when an ad is unrealistic or promotes a stereotype: What is the company not telling us? Do you know anyone who looks like that? Anyone who lives like that?

4. Foster skepticism about new forms of advertising on the Web.
Some commercial elements are obvious—an ad banner, for example, or a Web site that prominently features products. Other commercial elements, however, are less clear; they include interactive bots—electronic creatures that appear on a computer desktop to promote a product—as well as entire sites that collect children's opinions as research for clients. Remind your child never to give out personal information online. Finally, help your child appreciate that what looks real on screen may be just the opposite in real life.

5. Let your child hear you speak out against aggressive advertising.
Point out ads that appear in venues you consider inappropriate—especially those commercial messages you or your kids may encounter in schools, museums or other public places.
